August 16, 2020 “You Dawg!” Matthew 15:10-28

Good morning. I’m Pastor Brian, here at Richfield Lutheran Church, in south Minneapolis. With me today is Mary as our vocalist. (Paul is recovering from surgery and M.B. is on vacation.) Today is the 11th Sunday after Pentecost. Our gospel is Matthew 15:10-28. The Canaanite woman in today’s gospel is a Gentile, an outsider, who is unflinching in her request that Jesus heal her daughter. As Jesus commends her bold faith, how might our church extend its mission to those on the margins of society? In our gathering around word and meal we receive strength to be signs of comfort, healing, and justice for those in need. Remember: today we celebrate communion. If you’d like to partake, please have bread and juice (or something comparable) ready.
